A template isn't (just) about looks

A CV template decides what a recruiter's eye lands on first and how well an ATS can read the document. A good template puts the right information in the right order; a bad one, no matter how attractive, can get you rejected before anyone even reads it.

• One column, not two: ATS software reads top to bottom, in order.
• Clear hierarchy: obvious section headings, consistent spacing.
• A readable font and black text on white.
• No graphics standing in for text (icons, skill bars the software can't read).

• Corporate / technical / finance: understated, classic, maximum readability.
• Creative / design / marketing: a bit of visual flair is fine, but the structure stays ATS-friendly.
